What a beautiful name for the Aquitaine coast!

The name ‘Côte d'Argent’ was coined in 1905 by Maurice Martin, journalist, reporter and poet. He was inspired by the silvery reflections of the Atlantic Ocean in the sunlight. Get ready to be amazed!

Discover the Côte d'Argent: the Gironde in majesty

Located on the Atlantic coast in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, the Côte d'Argent begins at the tip of the Médoc, where the Gironde estuary meets the ocean. All along this legendary coastline, you'll find some of the most popular seaside resorts on the Atlantic coast, including Soulac-sur-Mer, Vendays-Montalivet, Hourtin and Lacanau. The Dune du Pilat, at the gateway to the Arcachon Basin, is a veritable link between land and sea, and is one of the region's unmissable landmarks.

The Landes coast: Europe's largest beach of fine sand!

With its 106 km of fine sand, the Landes coast is the largest beach in Europe. It's an ideal camping destination for seaside holidays: beaches as far as the eye can see, an almost continuous dune belt, all bordered by the Landes de Gascogne forest, the largest pine forest in Europe.

The Landes Great Lakes: the jewels of the Atlantic coast

On the Landes coast, the lakes are an integral part of the landscape. For families, they represent an ideal alternative to the often hectic ocean beaches. The Grands Lacs des Landes are ideal for water-based activities such as sailing, paddle-boarding, canoeing and fishing. Some of the best known are the Parentis-Biscarrosse lake, the Soustons lake, the Léon lake and the Huchet current, nicknamed the ‘little Amazon of the Landes’.

From the Côte d'Argent to the Basque Coast: a change of scenery

South of the mouth of the Adour, Anglet marks the end of the Côte d'Argent. The Chambre d'Amour cave marks this transition. After Biarritz, Bidart and Guéthary, the coastline changes. Here we are in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques: the fine sand of the Landes de Gascogne gives way to a steep, rocky coastline. This is where the Basque Coast begins.
